Motorola’s Screen3: A place for info (and ads)

Motorola Screen3

Last Friday I was busy at work (doing other than blogging things) and did not get to post. I missed some news items like this one from MocoNews.net

Motorola has announced a new technology which will allow dynamic content updates to idle cell phone screens. Much like we have the time displayed on our phones, we can also have information such as weather, stock quotes or even news displayed without user-intervention.

Uses: Carriers can use it to promote new services and features without bombarding user with text or multimedia messages. The service also could link to video clips or applications instead of just WAP pages. Motorola even is researching an advertising angle to Screen3-offering CNN content sponsored by Ford, for example.

“An advertising angle?” Seems pretty obvious to me. Can we please get an ad-subsidized cell phone service soon?
