Image Call - Like an IM Icon for your Mobile Phone
October 20th, 2005 | by amarfresh |![]()
picturephoning.com has a post about a new technology in Korea which will let the caller choose a picture to be displayed on the recipients phone - a la IM buddy icons.
Korean phone operator SK Telecom is launching “Image Call”, a service that allows callers to choose their favorite image and display it on other’s phone to which they make a call.
That’s a much better idea than ringback tones. I wonder what we can expect next- a service which allows callers to choose their favorite ringtone and have it play on the other’s phone to which they make a call? If they can do images, they can certainly do the tones. The fun I could have with that. I doubt that would fly as it could potentially cannibalize the ringtone market.

Couldnt agree more! Avatars on the mobile, used like your IM buddy icon, are the next It service in the mobile personalization industry. This is bound to be larger and cooler than Ringbacks.
At the recent CTIA trade show, in September, Comverse has launched the Klonies, a Mobile Avatar service.
Klonies allows subscribers to create and personalize unique avatars (a male, a female or a monster) that reflect their personalities, their different moods and tastes (in clothing, appearance, hobbies, preferred locations, etc). This can be done from their handsets or from the web. Then, the newly created Klonies are used as their Caller ID and SMS ID when they contact their friends.
The coolest thing about Klonies is the ability to determine how you would appear on your friends phones in real time! Every time your mood changes, you change your Klonie to match it and the next phone call youll make to friends theyll get to see the new Klonie.
More over, the Klonies service will allow the users to select various different branded content, so if you are a sports fan you can dress your Klonie with your with your favorite teams outfit and have much more fun being represented in the mobile sphere.
Have Fun,
