Big City Subway and Walking Directions (via SMS too!)

October 26th, 2005 | by amarfresh |

Google Maps and Yahoo Mapsis great for getting folks from PA to NYC by car. Even better, the same directions can be had from your mobiles using Google and Yahoo’s SMS services. But once they arrive at the Big Apple how does someone from Pennsyltucky get around the city after they have parked their car in an overpriced lot? Enter HopStop.com.

Hopstop.com provides urbanites with walking and subway directions rather than driving directions. What’s more is that from the website you can send the directions directly to your phone. Even better is that registered users (free) can send a text message to nyc@hopstop.com to request directions while on the go. Hopstop.com currently services New York City, Boston, and Washington D.C.
Here is a text message example of how I would get from work to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. (I didn’t even need to know the address of the garden!)

From: 424 W 33rd St,
To: Washington Ave & Empire Blvd, Bkyn
W. 34th St & 8th Ave
A train from 34 St - Penn station hding dwntwn/Lefferts Blvd
to W 4 St - Washington Sq
xfer
B train from W 4 St - Washington Sq hding dwntwn
to Prospect Park
Exit Empire Blvd & Flatbush Ave
Time 48 mins

It even tells me which exit to use at the subway station! Amazing!

Check your hopstop link.. It doesn’t appear to be linked properly.
