Opera mini now freely available for all the world : Software

November 9th, 2005 | by amarfresh |

Users of java-enabled cell phones can now enjoy web browsing with Opera Mini. Previously only available in Nordic countries, it appears that Opera (silently) has allowed any user to access their mobile-optimized software. Quite possibly this is a reaction to the release of Nokia’s new mobile web browser.

I was impressed with the speed and graphic compression ability of Opera Mini. I also like the fact that it cached previously visited pages making it easy to “go back.” It is not as featured as Opera Mobile, but I expect more features to come to OperaMini as phones gain speed and memory. I do know, however, that it is better than any Openwave browser I have used.

Point your wap browser to mini.opera.com/my to download the JAR file to your phone.

This appears to be a true html browser because it seems to “break” wap sites. (I couldn’t visit my Flycell WAP page to get ringtones.) Now, if I can only toggle WAP/WEB, get it out of my Games menu and make it the default browser.
